Welcome to Sir Manasseh Meyer International School – Singapore’s boutique Jewish School.
At SMMIS your child’s education and welfare are our priority. Your child will receive a first-class education both Jewish and Secular: with a focus on Literacy; Numeracy and skills development. We strive for excellence and use creative and dynamic methods to inspire your children.
We are a school that is driven by a moral purpose and a clear vision. We have a unique Jewish Ethos and nurture Jewishly literate children with an outstanding secular education. With small child centred classes your children will grow into fully rounded socially responsible young adults.
We promote the children’s physical and emotional well-being, developing their resilience, and building their confidence and self-esteem. We develop children, who have a love of learning – in a school that is inspiring excellence and building mensches.
I am driven by the work of Carol Dwek and Guy Claxton. In Growth Mindset, Carol Dwek reminds us that human beings are constantly changing, and that our ‘mindset’ is not static but is constantly growing and responding to the environment around us. We should encourage children to appreciate how they are the ‘masters of their own destiny’ and give them the confidence to develop as individuals. Life is a journey, and they should grasp opportunities as they arise.
Combine this with the work of Guy Claxton’s, Building Learning Power, who sees children as acquiring skills for life. He focuses on developing children’s resilience and their ability to collaborate; their enquiring minds and emotional wellbeing. Children need to learn how to make decisions and to take a risk, they need to feel confident and be committed to excelling in all that they do.
I believe that as members of the Jewish community and a school that is shaped by Jewish values we need to look outward and play our part in making the world a better place. The concept of Tikun Olam (healing the world) is an important one and a value that is promoted throughout your child’s journey at SMMIS.
For some of your children their time at SMMIS is only a part of their educational journey – they might leave us to go to other International Schools here in Singapore; a school in Australia, the USA, the UK, Israel or elsewhere. We ensure that each child is able to join a new education system with ease and with as little disruption as possible to their learning.
I look forward to welcoming you to SMMIS,
Ms Elaine Robinson, BA. MA. NPQH
